I wonder as I wander

I've been working on this post for days, adding thoughts in, taking some out.  It's taken me some time to understand how to convey, in words, the way I'm feeling this Christmas season.  One valuable lesson I've learned this year is that simple is better.  Less is more.  So, having applied that to this post...

I've entered into this season with a busy schedule, a tight budget, and an almost empty heart.  I'm tired, a little crabby and my social life has taken a serious hit since taking up residence in Dalbo, Minnesota.  I didn't take the time to prepare my heart for this special season, and I'm paying the price.  For weeks, as I've been crossing gifts off of my shopping list, baking cookies (Or rather, dipping pretzels in almond bark... not quite as difficult) and putting up decorations, I've wondered what's missing.

Do you ever tire of hearing the familiar phrase, "Jesus is the reason for the season"?  We hear it a lot this time of year.  Despite how cheesy this rhyming phrase might seem, it's so completely and wonderfully true.  He is the reason for every season in life, every moment.  As believers, we're blessed to be able to share the love and acceptance that we've been given by Christ.

We are blessed to share the love and acceptance that we've been given by Christ!  And there it is.  I'm empty because I've been trying to fill myself with selfish things.  Empty things.  I can't change my heart with warm, fuzzy, Christmas-y things (or even a peppermint mocha from Starbucks!), but I can change it by giving of myself and my love to others who need it.  So my question to you is, what are you doing to fill up your heart this Christmas?
